Local councillor Simon Galton says residents are shocked by the incident and has urged anyone with information to come forward:

The man, who is in his 50s, suffered multiple stab wounds. His son, aged 15, was also stabbed and both remain in hospital in a critical condition.

Bin collections in the village were suspended yesterday at the request of police.

It is understood officers wanted to search bins for the weapons used in the attack and other potential evidence.

Police have described the incident as appearing to be “completely unprovoked” and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
