Family Thanks Community After Funeral Of Much-Loved Shopkeeper

The family of a much-loved Market Harborough shop owner has thanked the community for its tributes following a private funeral.

Jim Gilbert ran Frank Gilbert Housewares on the High Street for more than 50 years before he sadly passed away last month.

His family said: “We would like to thank everyone for their kind cards, flowers and messages. If anyone would like to donate in his honour, please visit www.prostatecanceruk.org.”

News of Mr Gilbert’s death prompted hundreds of people to pay tribute on social media, while some also left flowers outside the shop.

Harborough District Council is also hoping to arrange a permanent tribute to Mr Gilbert and his long-running family business by dedicating a bench in the town centre to his memory.

The idea has been welcomed by his family.
