Family farm makes oat milk history with top food award

A family farm near Market Harborough has made food industry history after its fresh oat milk became the first in the UK to receive the highest possible three-star Great Taste Award.

Wild & Furrow, produced by the Marlow-Thomas family at their farm in Marston Trussell, was awarded three stars by the Guild of Fine Food.

The judges described it as “the best oat milk we have ever tried”, adding that it was “simply sensational” and more than stood up to coffee.

They also praised its “intensely smooth, luxurious mouthfeel”, calling it “a confident and standout expression within the category.”

The Great Taste Awards are organised by the Guild of Fine Food and products are assessed through blind tastings by panels including chefs, food critics, buyers and food writers.

Wild & Furrow is made entirely on the family farm, with the oats grown, processed and bottled just metres from where they are harvested.

The family says it is one of very few oat milks produced entirely on the farm where its main ingredient is grown.

Miles Marlow-Thomas, founder of Wild & Furrow, said receiving three stars was an achievement the family was “incredibly proud of”.

He said the award was particularly significant because the product was judged completely blind on taste alone, adding that the family had always believed growing their own oats and making the oat milk on the farm could create something special.

The award follows significant investment in Wild & Furrow’s on-farm production facility, with the business continuing to expand through independent milk rounds, cafés and retailers across the UK.

The family says the award also highlights what can be achieved through British farming, quality ingredients and controlling the process from “field to bottle”.

Wild & Furrow has previously received both one and two-star Great Taste Awards, with this year’s three-star result representing the highest recognition available and a historic first for the oat milk category.
