Firefighters prevent straw bale blaze spreading near Naseby

Firefighters prevented a large straw bale fire from spreading to a second stack after it broke out on farmland near Naseby.

Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to fields off Welford Road just before 3.15pm yesterday.

The fire is believed to have started after a spark from a tractor ignited the straw bales.

Firefighters from Kettering Fire Station attended alongside the Towcester water bowser, with an additional crew and appliance from Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service providing support.

Crews used hose reel jets and drag forks to tackle the blaze, while the farmer helped by using a digger to turn over hotspots.

Thanks to the quick response, firefighters stopped the flames from spreading to a second large stack of straw bales.

The fire was extinguished shortly after 5pm, with crews remaining at the scene for a time to dampen down the area and monitor for any remaining hotspots.
