Market Harborough Preschool Set for Major Expansion

Written by on 27th June 2026

Opening hours at a Market Harborough preschool are set to be significantly extended as part of a major expansion project funded by nearly £150,000 of Government investment.

Work is due to begin shortly at Farndon Fields Primary School, with improvements set to transform the school’s preschool provision for three and four-year-olds.

The funding forms part of a national programme supporting more than 300 schools to expand childcare provision and improve access for working families.

At Farndon Fields, the investment will support a full refurbishment of the existing mobile building, alongside upgrades to outdoor learning areas and security.

Planned improvements include new surfacing for play, zoned learning areas, a new fence line, a dedicated secure entrance, and additional shaded outdoor spaces.

Capacity will also increase from 26 to 32 preschool places, helping to meet strong local demand.

Most significantly, opening hours will be extended from the current term-time-only provision of 8am to 6pm, to a 51-week service running from 7.30am to 6pm, aligning with the school’s wraparound care and holiday club provision.

Headteacher Simone Harrison said the investment would make a meaningful difference to families, allowing the preschool to extend its offer, support more parents with flexible childcare, and provide consistency across the wider school day:
