Plans Revealed for River Improvements in Welland Park

Improvements are set to be carried out to the River Welland through Welland Park in Market Harborough.
East Mercia Rivers Trust says the project will improve water flow during the summer months by tackling excessive weed growth and adding gravel and small structures within the river.
It will also create better access points for education and community use and see new interpretation boards installed.

Harborough District Council is being asked to support the scheme with a grant of more than £36,000 from its Section 106 funding pot, which is made up of contributions from developers for community projects.
The trust says the River Welland through the park is a heavily modified urban watercourse, with weed growth restricting flow and causing both visual and ecological concerns.

The project builds on restoration work first carried out in 2014 and aims not only to improve the river environment, but also encourage long-term community involvement through links with the Harborough Rewilding Initiative.
