Warning After Deliberately Lit Fire in Rothwell

A warning has been issued after a hay bale was deliberately set on fire in a field in Rothwell.

Firefighters were called to Desborough Road shortly before 6.30pm on Saturday and found the bale well alight.

Crews from Desborough used wildfire backpacks to extinguish the blaze and prevent it from spreading.

The fire was contained to the bale, with crews damping down the surrounding area before leaving the scene shortly before 7.30pm.

Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service say fires deliberately lit in open spaces can spread quickly and “have horrific consequences”, while also putting pressure on emergency resources needed for more serious incidents.
