Roundabout Repairs Due After Further Safety Concerns Raised

Work to repair a roundabout on the edge of Market Harborough branded ‘a death-trap’ is due to be completed by the end of this week.

There have been growing calls for action after temporary fixes were carried out last month, but permanent repairs failed to materialise.

The junction of the A6 with Rockingham Road and the A427 has been described by some users as a “death-trap”, with reports of cyclists falling and a motorcyclist narrowly avoiding a crash due to potholes and the poor road surface.

Harborough councillors have also called for action, saying the roundabout—although just over the border in Northamptonshire—is a gateway to the town and its condition creates an unwelcoming first impression for visitors.

A spokesperson for North Northamptonshire Council said: “We understand the concerns raised by drivers and local councillors regarding the condition of the roundabout and we apologise for the frustration caused by the delay in completing permanent repairs.

“Our highways team attended the site on 6 March to carry out initial works in preparation for permanent Roadmender repairs.

“Subject to no unforeseen issues, we are aiming for all defects on the roundabout and its approaches and exits to be fully repaired by the end of this week.”
