More homes are set to be built on the edge of Great Bowden after plans were approved by councillors.

A total of 38 objections were received, with concerns including the loss of countryside and the narrowing gap between the village and Market Harborough.

However, a key factor in the decision to grant permission was the council’s current inability to demonstrate a five-year housing land supply, meaning developers would be likely to win any appeal if permission was refused.

Of the proposed homes, 21 would be classed as affordable, meaning they could be purchased through options such as shared ownership, social rent or first-time buyer schemes.

Councillor Peter James was the only member of Harborough District Council’s planning committee to vote against the plan at a meeting last night, citing concerns over the impact on GP services:
