Crunch Vote Set to Decide Control of Harborough District Council

A crucial vote that could change the political leadership of Harborough District Council is set to take place later this month.

An extraordinary meeting on April 20th will consider a Conservative motion to remove Liberal Democrat leader Phil Knowles.

Councillor Knowles has led a 16-strong coalition of Liberal Democrat, Labour, Green and independent members since 2023 on the tightly balanced authority.

The Conservatives, who also have 16 councillors and are the largest single party, argue the coalition no longer has an effective majority.

However, Councillor Knowles has described the move as “an attempted power grab.”
