Blooming Potholes – Man Plants Flowers to Spotlight Crumbling Roads

A man is planting colourful flowers in potholes to draw attention to poor roads in Desborough and surrounding areas.

Jon Nunn was prompted to act after repeated damage to his business vehicles and says repairs have often followed within days of his green-fingered protest.

He has been sharing videos of his efforts on TikTok, attracting thousands of views.

Jon, who owns a landscape gardening company, has also been planting flowers in potholes in his hometown of Corby and Kettering.

North Northamptonshire Council has urged residents not to fill in potholes themselves, describing it as “extremely dangerous,”.

Cllr Chris McGiffen, Executive Member for Highways and Travel, said: “We understand the frustration caused by potholes across Corby and Kettering. Over the last two months, we’ve seen an unprecedented increase due to prolonged wet weather, freeze-thaw cycles, and ageing road surfaces.

“Our teams are prioritising the most severe and safety-critical issues first. We strongly advise against attempting to fill potholes yourself, as it can be dangerous and may create further hazards or delay proper repairs.

“Residents should report potholes via www.northnorthants.gov.uk/roads so they can be assessed and scheduled for repair. Our teams continue to carry out temporary and permanent fixes as quickly and safely as possible.”
