Burglar Stole Cigarettes Worth £14,000 From Sainsbury’s

A burglar who stole cigarettes worth £14,000 from Sainsbury’s in Desborough has been given a suspended prison sentence and ordered to pay compensation.

Paul Dewison broke into the store in the early hours, damaging a shutter and front window to gain entry.

He fled before police arrived, although some of the stolen items were found near-by during a search by a police dog.

Dewison, who was arrested at a later date, pleaded guilty to burglary at the store in Cockerel Rise on July 28th 2023.

The 42-year-old, of Deal Street, Northampton, was sentenced to 27 weeks in prison, suspended for six months, at Northampton Crown Court yesterday.

He was also ordered to pay £6,600 in compensation, comply with an alcohol treatment order, and complete rehabilitation activities.
