Suicide Prevention Forum Planned in Market Harborough

Written by on 16th February 2026

A meeting will take place next month to strengthen suicide prevention efforts in the Market Harborough area.

Harborough District Council has announced a roundtable event on March 11th, bringing together support groups and agencies to discuss closer working.

The meeting follows discussions with campaigners last year over concerns about suicide rates locally, with three deaths reported on the railway near Market Harborough in 2025.

The Youth Suicide Prevention Forum will take place at the council’s Symington Building HQ and be chaired by Cllr Phil Knowles, leader of the council:

The meeting follows initial talks involving Wendy and Mark Nimmo from Market Harborough, who have been raising awareness and support after their son Alex died by suicide in 2022 at the age of 27.

Marie Connor from charity HAB Anti-bullying and Mental Health has also been helping to promote community action:

Anyone wishing to attend the meeting is asked to contact the council HERE before March 4th

Anyone needing immediate support can contact Samaritans free on 116 123.
