LCC Set To Raise Council Tax By 2.99%

Leicestershire County Council is pushing ahead with plans to raise council tax by 2.99%.
The rise would mean a Band D household paying just over £50 extra a year.
The Reform UK-led authority said it is the first time in over a decade the council hasn’t proposed the maximum possible rise and the increase would bring in almost £13m, to help tackle a budget shortfall forecast to reach £85m by 2030.
Councillor Harrison Fowler, cabinet member for resources, spoke at a meeting of the council’s Cabinet:
The county council’s charges the largest share of residents’ council tax bills, with smaller portions going to district councils and to fund Leicestershire Police and Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service.
A final decision on LCC’s overall budget will be taken later this month.
