Investigation After Bright Blue Liquid Flows Into River Welland

An investigation is underway after a bright blue liquid was seen flowing into the River Welland in Market Harborough.

The substance was spotted entering the water from a storm overflow pipe near the Kettering Road bridge on Sunday.

While coloured dye is sometimes used in watercourses to trace leaks, Anglian Water says it was not carrying out any such work at the time.

A spokesperson for the company, which is responsible for wastewater in the town, said: “Our local teams are not carrying out any work that would cause a blue discharge into the river like this.

“We’re carrying out investigations on our network to identify the source.”

Cllr Phil Knowles, leader of Harborough District Council, told HFM he was pleased the issue was being treated as a matter of urgency.
