Firefighters Begin Walking Challenge In Memory Of Colleague

Firefighters from Billesdon have started a 150-mile walking challenge in full kit to raise money in memory of a colleague.

The ten day fundraiser, linking all 20 fire stations across Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland, honours Watch Manager Jon Partridge, who worked at Billesdon Fire Station and died suddenly in February at the age of 38.

Members of the Billesdon on-call crew are joining the walk on different days, together with other staff from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service.

The challenge has already raised over £2,000 for the Fire Fighters’ Charity and Jon’s family.

District Manager Dan Fathers told HFM it is a fitting tribute:

The challenge began last Thursday and has seen the team walk from Billesdon to Market Harborough, Market Harborough to Lutterworth, Lutterworth to Market Bosworth and Market Bosworth to Ashby.

Today it will take the firefighters from Ashby to Shepshed, while the remainder of the route is:

14 October – Shepshed to Loughborough to Birstall to Western

15 October – Western to Southern to Wigston to Central to Eastern

16 October – Eastern to Melton

17 October – Melton to Oakham to Uppingham

18 October – Uppingham to Billesdon
