Warning After Bogus Charity Collectors Target Elderly Woman

A warning has been issued after an elderly woman fell victim to a charity scam in Market Harborough yesterday.
Two women, who claimed they were deaf and collecting donations for a deaf or disabled children’s charity, approached her on a path near Sainsbury’s.
After the victim agreed to donate £5 using her bank card, she later discovered £2,000 had been taken from her account.
The bogus charity workers were standing near Sainsbury’s in Market Harborough
The fraudsters, described as white and middle-aged, showed cards to explain the so-called collection and were carrying clipboards.
They were standing by the bridge over the river, which connects the path to the long-stay car park on St Mary’s Road.
The victim has reported the incident to Leicestershire Police, Action Fraud and to her bank and is urging other people to be on-guard.
