Streetlighting Upgrade To Finally Happen

Long-awaited work to upgrade streetlighting in Market Harborough town centre will begin later this month.

Leicestershire County Council will replace 50 of the aging and obsolete wall-mounted sodium lights with energy-efficient LED lamps.

Several of the lights have been broken for over 18 months prompting safety concerns, as roads and pavements are dark in some areas.

The council previously admitted it did not have the money to resolve the issue, but allocated up to £200,000 in this year’s budget to carry out the work.

Cllr Sarah Hill has campaigned for the upgrade and has welcomed the news work will be carried out before the darker nights arrive.

The work is set to begin on September 29th and will mean temporary parking restrictions on sections of the High Street between Abbey Street and Bowden Lane.
