Renovation Work Steps-Up On Town Centre Landmarks

Renovation work costing nearly £2m is being stepped up at council buildings in Market Harborough.
Roof and window repairs are taking place at both the Market Hall and historic Symington Building, where some external masonry is also being replaced.
Both town centre buildings are cloaked in scaffolding to allow for the work to take place.
Work is on-going at the Symington Building
Cllr Phil Knowles, Leader of Harborough District Council, said: “The Symington Building is one of our district’s iconic community assets and an important part of our shared history that we must not lose.
“Historic buildings need to be maintained and that is why we made budget provision earlier in the year for the upkeep of this landmark building. As the current custodians of The Symington Building, we are investing now to preserve it for future generations.”
The work at the Symington Building, which is home to the council and others including the town’s library and museum, is set to take until March next year to complete, while the Market Hall repairs should be finished in early October.
The traders’ lift will also be replaced at the market in the New Year as part of the investment into the building.
Both buildings remain open as normal during the works.
