Controversial plans to build 230 new homes in the north of the Harborough District have been refused.
Councillors went against the advice of planning officers in rejecting the proposal for 47 acres of land either side of the A47, to the east of Houghton on the Hill.
They ruled the development, which would also have included a GP surgery and care home, would intrude into the countryside location and the adverse impact would outweigh any benefits.
Over 100 villagers had opposed the plan and Cllr Sindy Modah who represents Billesdon and Tilton, spoke of her concerns at last night’s meeting of Harborough District Council’s planning committee:

The areas identified for the development
As well as the loss of the countryside, objectors also raised concerns about the impact on roads in the area from increased traffic.
Resident Deb Tull addressed the meeting:
The plan, which was refused by five votes to three, is the first to be considered by the council since changes to national planning policy left it unable demonstrate a five-year housing land supply.
The applicant is able to use that fact in arguments, should it decide to appeal the decision.
