Community Groups Benefit From SwiMarathon

Grants totalling £8,000 have been handed to charity and community groups in and around Market Harborough thanks to the efforts of swimmers.

Over 100 people took part in the Market Harborough Rotary Club’s SwiMarathon in March and grants from money raised were handed to 16 organisations at a presentation last night.

Rotarian Carole Baldam helped co-ordinate the event and spoke to HFM:

Groups to receive funding were HFM, Bower House, Market Harborough Litter Wombles, Market Harborough Academy PTFA, Great Bowden Academy, Great Bowden Pre-School, Ian’s Chain, Market Harborough Sea Cadets, Home Start South Leicestershire, 1st Market Harborough Scouts, Market Harborough Musical Memory Box, Holiday at Home, VASL, St Dionysius Church and Market Harborough Fixers.

Market Harborough Morsbags were also handed a grant to assist with their work in making reusable shopping bags from unwanted fabric.

A proportion of the money raised through the event will also support the Rotary’s work around the world.

Awards were also handed out to participants and teams who took part in the SwiMarathon, to recognise things like the highest amount of money raised and the highest number of lengths swam.
