Litter Wombles Collect 200,000 Bags Of Rubbish

Written by on 17th March 2025

Volunteer litter pickers in and around Market Harborough have helped Leicestershire Little Wombles collect 200,000 bags of rubbish.

The milestone has been reached as the group marks its sixth anniversary and if placed next to each other the bags would stretch 41 miles, the distance from Market Harborough to Leicester and back again.

A dedicated team of around 200 volunteers give up their own time to keep the county clean and are often out and about in our area.

Yesterday a team of 15 wombles collected over 70 bags of rubbish after carrying out a litter pick on the A6 Market Harborough bypass.

They also discovered a sofa which had been flytipped in a ditch and alerted Harborough District Council’s enviro-crime team after finding dumped boxes which had a name and address on.

Last weekend over 30 bags of rubbish were collected in and around the Sainsbury’s Car Park in Market Harborough.
