Suspected Bomb Was Ornamental Grenade

A suspected unexploded bomb on Brixworth Industrial Estate turned out to be ornament in the shape of a grenade.

Northamptonshire Police were alerted after it was spotted discarded yesterday afternoon.

Officers put a 50-metre cordon in place and closed roads as a precaution, with some staff evacuated from businesses.

An Army bomb disposal team was sent to the scene and quickly established the item was a harmless collector’s ornament.

A spokesperson for Northamptonshire Police said: “Thankfully it did not turn out to be a viable device and we’d like to thank everyone in the area for their patience during the incident.”
