Individuals who have made remarkable sporting achievements have been honoured at an awards ceremony in Market Harborough.

Those who go above and beyond to encourage others to get active were also recognised at the ‘Let’s Get Moving Physical Activity Awards’,  organised by Harborough District Council.

Lukasz Kostecki, a PE Teacher at Kibworth Primary School won the ‘Unsung Hero’ award for his passion and enthusiasm in getting pupils involved in sport.

He spoke to HFM:

The awards ceremony took place at Harborough Leisure Centre on Wednesday evening and HFM was proud to sponsor two of the awards.

A team of talented dancers from Core Dance kicked off the evening with a number of energetic dance routines which delighted the guests, before the nominees and winners were announced and the stylish trophies were awarded.

12-year-old Edie Wrighton from Broughton Astley won the Junior Sports Person of the Year award for achievements in karate, having won 20 medals in various competitions including representing her country:

The Sportsperson Of The Year award was handed to talented netball player Evie Watts from Kibworth.

After starting playing at Market Harborough Netball Club, Evie has recently secured a place in the Scotland squad.

Her Mum Nina collected the award of her behalf, as due to playing commitments Evie was unable to attend the ceremony:

Special recognition was given to Market Harborough gym member Millie Clarke who, alongside staff at Harborough gym, dealt swiftly with a medical incident involving a gym goer who collapsed onsite.

Staff did an excellent job in managing the incident and luckily Millie, a student nurse, was training in the gym when it happened so the individual received immediate medical care.

Nominations for the awards were made by residents, and an independent panel of judges made the difficult final decisions within each category.

Cllr Jo Asher, Harborough District Council’s Portfolio lead for Leisure told HFM it was a fantastic night:
