Harborough Farmers Join Mass Protest

Written by on 19th November 2024

Farmers from across Harborough have joined a mass protest in London over changes to inheritance tax.

It will mean some farms valued at over £1m will be subject to a 20% tariff when passed on to the next generation.

Workers claim this will lead to higher food prices and lower production.

Farmers at Market Harborough Railway Station before travelling to join the protest

A large contingent of farmers from the Market Harborough area met at the town’s railway station this morning before travelling to join the protest outside Parliament, which is being attended by thousands of people from across the country.

These farmers told HFM why they were going:

The Government insist only the wealthiest of farmers will will pay and it must take ‘difficult decisions’ to invest in the schools and services those in rural communities rely on.
