New Homes Could Be Built Behind Council’s HQ

New homes could be built behind the Symington Building in Market Harborough.

A review into the council’s use of its headquarters has recommended the authority considers a residential development in the area currently used for car parking.

It states around 20 terraced houses, bungalows and mews houses could be accommodated in the public and staff and car parks on Symington Way and Mill Hill.

The review also suggests underused areas of the historic building on Adam and Eve Street could be turned into ‘managed office space’ to bring in additional income.

It also looked at the potential of creating apartments on the upper floors of the building and a cinema on the ground floor, but both options were deemed ‘unprofitable’ by consultants who carried out the work.

The council’s coalition administration ordered the review as part of a wider review of assets owned by the council.

Member of the council’s Cabinet will consider the findings at a meeting next week.
