Path Re-Opens After Utility Firm Fined

A well-used footpath in Market Harborough has finally re-opened after a utility firm was fined for letting repair work over-run.

Pedestrians, including many students, faced a lengthy diversion while the alleyway between Stuart Road on the southern estate and Welland Park Road was closed for electricity works.

The work was supposed to take just over a week and residents complained workers were only on-site for a few hours on some days.

Leicestershire County Council has issued fines to National Grid for not completing the work within the agreed time.

The company apologised and blamed complications with a sewer in the same area for the delay.
