Thousands Watch Easter Tradition Continue In Hallaton

Thousands of people turned out to watch the Easter Monday Bottle Kicking in Hallaton yesterday.
The event dating back 2000 years saw a parade and traditional ceremonies take place, before villagers from Hallaton and neighbouring Medbourne battled it out in the rugby-style contest in fields between the two communities.

Hallaton were victorious yesterday, winning the best-of-three event 2-0.
The contest is one of the oldest continued customs in the county also included the ceremonial slicing up and distribution of a hare pie.
Two of the ‘bottles’ contain beer while the other is painted red and white, and is referred to as ‘the dummy’.
Yesterday marked 50 years since the event chairman, Phil Allan, joined its organising committee and he told HFM it was a fantastic day:
