Students Take Part In 24-Hour Charity Sports Marathon

Over 160 students at Robert Smyth Academy have taken part in a 24-hour charity sports marathon.

The ‘lock-in’ event saw youngsters from years 10, 11, 12 and 13 participating in 14 different sports, ranging from football and basketball to badminton and rugby.

Former Robert Smyth students who have excelled in sport – professional tennis player Abby Amos, Peterborough United Women’s Tara Kirk and National Rower Sinead Kirk – spoke at the start of the event to help motivate those taking part.

Former student Tim Gorman-Powell represented and spoke on behalf of Leicestershire-based charity Hope Against Cancer, which the event last Thursday and Friday supported.

The theme of the fundraiser was the forthcoming Paris Olympics, with groups of students representing different countries.
