Work To Rid School Of Dangerous Concrete Moves Closer

Written by on 6th February 2024

The start of work to remove dangerous concrete from a Market Harborough primary school has moved a step closer.

A planning application has been lodged to install a new roofing system above the hall and kitchen at Joseph’s Catholic Academy, at a cost of half-a-million pounds.

Both areas have been out of use since last September when Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) which is liable to collapse was identified.

Children have had to eat lunches in classrooms ever since and some activities held off-site.

The Department for Education is to fund the cost of the new roof and the work is to be overseen by Market Harborough-based architects YMD Boon.

It is hoped the work will be completed in time for the start of the new school year in September.
