Market Harborough’s tip is set to be saved from closure.
Leicestershire County Council has announced its intention to keep open the facility on Riverside, as part of revised budget plans.
The authority has been able to re-think its cost-saving proposals after being told it will receive around £5m of extra funding from government.

There was widespread opposition to the plan to close the Recycling and Household Waste Site on Riverside, as it would have meant residents travelling to the tip in Kibworth to dump rubbish.
Cllr Blake Pain is cabinet member for waste and told HFM the new proposals involve keeping the Harborough site open, but for one less day a week and a one day reduction in opening at Kibworth tip:
Over 5,500 people responded to a public consultation into the plan to close Market Harborough’s tip along with two others in the county – the new proposals also include keeping the site in Shepshed open.
Residents are set to be asked for their views on the new proposals this month, before a final decision is taken.
The County Council is still proposing balancing the books next year using £6m of reserves – the first time this has been required – and forecast a budget gap of £83m by 2028 after planned savings.
