Villagers have gathered to voice concerns about an energy plant being built near Great Bowden.

Over 60 residents attended at public meeting called over plans to put the facility on land off Welham Lane.

The Anaerobic Digestion Plant would turn straw and chicken manure into gas, which would be fed into the national grid.

The meeting at the Village Hall on Saturday heard of concerns about potential smells, noise and traffic implications if the plant is built.

Villagers say it would be too close to houses and a country park.

Harborough MP Neil O’Brien and Cllr Phil Knowles, leader of Harborough District Council, were among those in attendance.

GMT biogas, the company behind the plan, say processes mean odour will be ‘negligible’ and full traffic and noise assessments have been submitted with the planning application.

It has offered to meet with the community in a bid to allay their concerns.

The plan will be considered by Leicestershire County Council.
