Riverbanks Searched After Otter Dies

Police have released a picture of a snare which led to the death of an otter found with extensive injuries in Little Bowden.
An investigation is continuing after the mammal had to be put down a week ago, when the trap cut through its body.

It is believed the snare had been placed beside the River Jordan or River Welland, where otters – a protected species – have become a familiar sight.

Searches have been carried out of those areas this week to check for any other traps, but none were found.
PC Kelly Tones from Leicestershire Police’s Rural Policing Team is investigating the incident alongside the RSPCA and told HFM its upset a lot of people:
