Opening Of Harborough Link Road Faces Eight-Month Delay

The opening of a new link road through a Market Harborough housing estate is set to be delayed until August.
The road between the A4304 at Lubenham Hill and the B6047 Leicester Road should have been open by now, because over 450 homes are occupied on the Airfield Farm Estate – a condition of the original planning permission for the site.
An application by developers to change the timetable is being recommended for approval this week, despite objections from some residents and a councillor.

The link road will connect one side of Market Harborough with the other
Developers want to hold-off the opening of the road until just before a new primary school is due to open on the estate.
They cite safety concerns for the move, with the building of homes still taking place adjacent to the road and construction traffic using it.
Cllr Jo Asher, who represents the Airfield Farm Estate, is concerned at the delay and requested the matter be considered by Harborough District Council’s planning committee.
She told HFM if it is allowed, thought must be given to allow pedestrians and cyclists to use the route in the meantime:
