Firefighters came to the rescue after a sheep got stranded in a canal near Great Bowden.
They were alerted when a passer-by noticed the animal struggling in the water off Leicester Lane, after it escaped from a field near-by.

A fire crew from Market Harborough was sent to the scene yesterday afternoon, together with a Technical Rescue Team from Leicester’s Southern fire station.
The firefighters used specialist equipment including lines and a sled to get to the sheep and bring it back to dry land, in a rescue operation that took over two hours.

The animal, which crews say appeared unharmed apart from being exhausted, was then handed over to a vet to be checked.
