Decision On ‘Super Prison’ Delayed For Fifth Time

Written by on 8th November 2023

The decision on if a massive new prison will be built near Market Harborough has been delayed for a fifth time.

The government was due to make an announcement today, but in an update issued this afternoon says it still needs more time to consider the proposal.

A decision on if the 17,00-inmate ‘super prison’ will go up on land near HMP Gartree will now be made on or before December 7th.

The plan for the £300m jail has faced mass opposition and was refused by Harborough District Council, before the Ministry of Justice lodged an appeal.
