On World Mental Health Day a Market Harborough charity is urging people to check-in on friends and family.

HAB Anti-bullying and Mental Health fund specialist counselling for people of all ages and has just been awarded National Lottery funding of over £9,500 to help enable its vital work to continue.

Demand for the charity’s help is at an all-time high with long waits for NHS treatment and the high cost of private counselling.

Marie Connor runs the charity spoke to HFM:

A survey commissioned by the Prince and Princess of Wales’ Royal Foundation shows young people are seriously struggling with their mental health.

95% of 16 to 24-year-olds said they thought their peers were having issues with anxiety and depression.

Heads Up Leicester is the new name for the Centre for Fun & Families (CFF) from today, to coincide with World Mental Health Day.

Launched in 1990, the charity has helped thousands of families across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, providing groupwork and one-to-one sessions for young people, and supporting parents through the challenges of family life.

Lindsay Woodward, CEO told HFM they have been supporting more younger children since the pandemic:

The charity says the new name will better reflect their work and the sort of work they will be doing going forward, with a stronger focus on providing early intervention mental health support for young people and families.

Moira O’Hagen is chair of Heads Up Leicester:
