Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital in Kibworth is caring for an usual patient – an exhausted Manx Shearwater bird – thought to have got blown off-course during last week’s strong winds.

The seabird is thought to have been en-route from the coast of west Wales to South America, where the species migrates to for the winter, but ended up landing in Rugby.

Luckily someone found the bird and contacted the wildlife hospital for advice, before taking it to be admitted.

It is very unusual for a Manx Shearwater to be found so far in-land and once back to full-fitness, staff from the charity will travel to Wales to release it.

The bird is currently being hand-fed and Amy Ducker, Animal Care Team Leader at the wildlife hospital spoke to HFM:
