Work Starts To Build New Primary School In Market Harborough

Work is underway to build a new £9.3m primary school in Market Harborough.

Groundworks have begun at the site on the Airfield Farm housing estate, where the 210-place Airfield Farm Primary School will be constructed over the next few months.

Leicestershire County Council is funding the build, using money provided by housing developers William Davis and Taylor Wimpey and the government.

Once complete it will be handed over to an academy provider.

Construction firm Willmott Dixon is carrying out the building project, on land between Airfield Road and Owen Way, with the aim of completing it so the school can open to its first pupils next September.

It will be the first new school in Market Harborough for over 20 years and will initially be for reception year children, with it expected to reach capacity by 2030.

The school will be ‘eco-friendly’ with technology including air source heat pumps and solar panels used to provide power, so it is ‘net-zero’ when in operation.

It will include teaching spaces for pupils with special educational needs, a multi-use play area, nature areas and parking and drop-off spaces.

The modular design of the school means it has the potential to be extended in the future to accommodate 420 pupils.
