Work Steps Up On New Homes Scheme In Market Harborough

Elderly residents who had to leave their bungalows in Market Harborough will be given the chance to return when new homes are built in their place.

13 bungalows are in the process of being demolished at Naseby Square on the southern estate, before new ‘affordable’ homes are built on the site.

The occupants were first informed of the plan when they received a letter out-of-the-blue and have since been re-housed by housing association Platform Housing Group, which is carrying out the £7.5m re-development.

A major campaign against the plan followed, with hundreds signing petitions against it.

Marion Duffy, Chief Operations officer at Platform Housing Group confirmed residents re-housed will be given the opportunity to return and says relations with other residents in the area are now good.

Demolition work is entering its final stage before work to build the 38 new homes begins, of which 19 will be offered for affordable rent and 19 for shared ownership.
