Harborough’s MP has met with the country’s Rail Minister to call for a re-think on plans to close thr ticket office at Market Harborough railway station.

There has been widespread opposition to the idea and comments made during a public consultation are currently being assessed, before a final decision is taken.

The office is one of around 1,000 up and down the country earmarked for closure, with fears it will put disabled and elderly people off rail travel.

Neil O’Brien, who has also raised his concerns during the consultation period, spoke to HFM after meeting with Huw Merriman:

An East Midlands Railway spokesperson said: “The Stations and Retail consultation has now closed. Independent passenger watchdogs Transport Focus and London Travelwatch are collating the responses on behalf of the industry and will provide a response to the Rail Industry.

“We will work with the Watchdogs to listen and understand the feedback so that we can finalise our proposals to support creating a sustainable railway for the future.

“We would like to thank everyone who fed into the consultation and we will share these outcomes on our dedicated website at the appropriate time.”
