Men Accused Of £1.5m Art Theft From Nevill Holt Hall Go On Trial

Five men have gone on trial accused of stealing rare art work worth over £1.5m from a stately home near Market Harborough.

The paintings, including two worth half-a-million pounds each, were stolen from Nevill Holt Hall near Medbourne in April 2019.

The property’s owner – millionaire David Ross – was on holiday at the time.

The gang is also accused of carrying out 20 further raids at business premises mainly in Leicestershire and Northamptonshire, stealing everything from pallets of Joules clothing to JCBs and solar panels, totalling over £4m.

Adel Chouhaib, 44, of Bede Close Corby, Barry Mitchell, 43, of Carmarthen Way in Rushden, William Castle, 33 of Brangwyn Walk, Corby, Robert Mitchell, 38, of London Road in Raunds and Suray Hamdi, 47, of Chain Close, Peterborough, all deny charges of conspiring to burgle and conspiring to steal.

The trial at Northampton Crown Court is set to continue until October.
