Written by on 21st August 2023

A fire at a bungalow in Market Harborough last night was caused by burnt cooking.

It was initially thought the occupant was still inside the smoke-filled property in Douglas Drive, but they had got out when firefighters arrived.

Firefighters from Market Harborough were called to the blaze

East Midlands Ambulance Service and Police also attended the scene when the alarm was raised by a neighbour just before 8.15pm.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service say the bungalow was heavily smoke-logged and firefighters in breathing apparatus entered the property to extinguish the blaze, before ventilating it.

Firefighters have urged people to never leave cooking unattended.
