Eight play areas across the Harborough district have been transformed with new equipment installed for children of all ages and abilities.

Parks in Logan Street and The Headlands in Market Harborough and Little Bowden Recreation Ground are among those to have benefitted from the upgrades totalling £230,000, as well as the play area in Welland Park.

Work was carried out over the past couple of months to ensure it was finished in time for the school summer holidays.

Cllr Darren Woodiwiss, Harborough District Council’s Cabinet lead for Environmental services and grounds maintenance, said: “These play area improvements are necessary to provide diverse and stimulating play equipment and safer surfacing for all.

“They will ensure our parks are more inclusive, accommodate cognitive play and help children be active, sociable and healthy, which is important for their development.”

Play areas in Lutterworth, Thurnby, Scraptoft and Broughton Astley have also been upgraded, while the multi-play unit in Welland Park is to be replaced after the summer holidays and further equipment changed in the autumn.
