Have Your Say On Plans To Dim Streetlights

People across Harborough are being urged to have their say on plans to dim streetlights.
Leicestershire County Council has launched a four week consultation on the idea to reduce lighting levels to 30% after 8pm, which would save more than £500,000 over the next four years.
There are concerns the move could lead to more road traffic collisions and pedestrians feeling less safe and a final decision won’t be taken until residents’ views have been taken into account, as well as those of emergency services.
The council says the majority of residential street lights already dim to 30% at 10pm, which will help give residents an understanding of what this lower lighting level looks like.
Councillor Ozzy O’Shea, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “I would encourage people to respond to the questionnaire.
“We’re also going to work closely with the emergency services so that light levels also reflect the characteristics of a particular area.”
