Ambulance Staff Postpone Strike Action For Talks With Government

Written by on 6th March 2023

Strikes by staff at East Midlands Ambulance Service have been postponed.

Members of the GMB and Unison unions were due to stage a further walkout today, but have halted the action while new negotiations take place with the government over pay.

The Unite union has also paused its strike, which was planned for Wednesday.

EMAS had planned to use military personnel in help during this week’s strikes, but has now stood down the arrangements.

A spokesperson said: “We are grateful to our colleagues both on and off the picket lines, and in the trade unions, for their professionalism and collaboration throughout industrial action, to ensure we could continue to respond to patients in need of an emergency response.

“We will continue to work with trade union colleagues closely to keep patients safe in any future periods of industrial action and continue to fully respect the right of NHS staff to take lawful and peaceful action.”
