Market Harborough Stands In Solidarity With Ukraine On Invasion Anniversary
Written by HFM News on 24th February 2023
The Ukrainian community is holding a day of commemoration in Market Harborough to mark a year since Russia invaded their country.
A special service will be held at the Methodist Church in Northampton Road at 4pm, including prayers, the lighting of candles, a silence and musical performances, followed by refreshments, with all welcome to attend.
Before then, a pop-up stall is under the Old Grammar School until 2pm, selling hand-made solidarity items, like bracelets and brooches, with proceeds going to the continued aid effort in Ukraine.
Market Harborough Enterprise Club and the UP (Ukrainian Participation) Project have made the items, with assistance from local school children.

Harborough District Council has raised the Ukrainian flag on top of the Symington Building in Market Harborough this morning, to show the town’s in solidarity with Ukraine.
Over 200 people who fled the war have been taken in by families across Harborough in the past year, with more people in the District than anywhere else in Leicestershire welcoming refugees to their homes.
Natalya McTernan moved to Market Harborough from Ukraine eight years ago and has been supporting those who have moved here, including helping launch a weekly Saturday coffee morning at the Methodist Church.
She spoke to HFM’s Nick Shaw about why it is important today’s anniversary is marked and how the Ukrainian refugees have been welcomed into the area:
