Religious Ceremonies Held After Death Of Talented Thai Footballer

Religious ceremonies have taken place in Market Harborough and Thailand following the death of talented footballer Dom Promthep.

The 17-year-old, a member of Brooke House College Football Academy, died in hospital last week after being found injured at his accommodation on Northampton Road.

Buddhist monks have conducted prayers during ceremonies in Market Harborough and in Thailand a ceremony was held at a temple in Chiang Rai province, with Dom’s parents taking pictures, clothes, and shoes to the service, as his body has not yet been repatriated from Britain.

Members of the football team who were trapped with the teenager in a Thai Cave in 2018 were also there.

Dom won a scholarship to join Brooke House College Football Academy last August and the college has said the college community was “united in grief” with Dom’s family, friends and former teammates.

It says it continues to work closely with the Royal Thai Embassy and other agencies, to enable the family’s wishes to be carried out and for appropriate ceremonies and periods of mourning and prayer to take place.

Police are not treating the death as suspicious.
