Council Tax Set To Be Frozen To Help With Cost-Of-Living

Written by on 7th February 2023

Harborough District Council is set to freeze council tax charges.

A 2.99% increase (just over £5 a year for a Band D property) had been planned this year, but is deemed no longer necessary as the authority will receive more income than  anticipated from other sources.

Residents will still see bills increase overall, as charges by other bodies including Police are going up and Leicestershire County Council is also set to approve a rise.

Cllr Phil King, Leader of Harborough District Council, told HFM the freeze in his authority’s portion of bills will help residents during the cost-of-living crisis:

The District Council’s budget still needs to be approved later this month at a meeting of the Full Council.

Services provided by the authority include waste and recycling, planning, parks and open spaces, street cleaning and environmental health.
