Council To Get Tough With Landlords Who Fail Tenants Across Harborough

Harborough District Council is to get tough with private landlords who fail tenants.
The new Housing Enforcement Policy means fines of up to £5,000 can be handed out to landlords who do not comply with various regulations, or fail make improvements to properties when ordered to do so.
There were 88 complaints lodged with the council about housing issues last year – nearly three times the number received four years ago.
The new policy was approved this week and Cllr Simon Whelband, cabinet member for communities, well-being and housing, spoke to HFM:
